In this episode of Hey Plant Trainers, we answer a question about a possible iron deficiency resulting in fatigue and energy loss. There are 2 types of iron, heme (from animals) and non-heme (from plants). While it may be said that our body may absorb heme iron more efficiently, there are tons of options for iron from plant-based sources. It’s also interesting to note that while vegetarians and vegans have less iron stores than omnivores, they do not have higher incidences of anemia.
“Hey Plant Trainers, I’ve been vegetarian for a while now and trying to become more vegan yet I find my energy levels fluctuate. That being said, most of the time I feel low on energy. I’ve been told that the reason could be that I’m lacking iron in my diet Could I have an iron deficiency? What are some good sources of Iron from whole plant-based foods that I can add which will boost my energy levels.”
